MACAO - Conrad Macao, Cotai Central celebrated Earth Hour 2017 from 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, March 25. The hotel joined thousands of Hilton Worldwide's more than 4,900 properties across 104 countries in shining a light on climate change by taking action locally to reduce energy use and preserve the environment.
The hotel turned off its external façade lights and dimmed all non-essential lighting in its restaurants and lounges, including its sparkling crystal chandelier that is the centrepiece of its lobby in support of action on global climate change. In place of the chandelier was a spectacular display made up of 325 candles and recycled materials that formed the shape of the Earth, illuminating the lobby and spelling out 'Earth Hour Conrad Macao 2017' to demonstrate the hotel's commitment to Earth Hour, Every Month.

As part of its commitment to preserving the environment, and its green resolution to observe 'Earth Hour, Every Month', Conrad Macao switches off all non-essential lighting on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
The extended Earth Hour participation began in 2013 when Conrad Macao posed a friendly challenge for other hotels in Macao to join its monthly lights-out as part of Earth Hour's global 'I Will If You Will' campaign.
In addition Conrad Macao actively practices green initiatives on a daily basis, including replacing more than 25,000 light bulbs with new LED/energy efficient ones, resulting in savings of more than one million KWH. Other energy initiatives include implementing operational efficiency improvements to the hotel's central chilled water plant resulting in annualised energy reductions of over 2.8 million KWH.
Created by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour began in 2007 as a way for individuals and businesses to show how simple steps can make a significant impact on addressing climate change. The idea was conceived during a WWF meeting held at the Hilton Sydney, Australia. In the first year, more than two million people turned off their lights for an hour, reducing the city's energy consumption by more than 10 percent. Earth Hour went on to become a global movement and today it is the largest grassroots environmental movement in the world, with more than 7,000 cities and towns in 178 countries and territories and hundreds of millions of people participating. In 2016, over 2.4 million actions were taken to combat climate change during Earth Hour.
